Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Year 1 at Mab’s Cross Primary School. My name is Mrs Gallagher and I am your child’s class teacher. I am really looking forward to an exciting year ahead full of growth, exploration and a wealth of learning opportunities.

As a teacher for over 20 years, I have a passion for teaching that I share with my class in a caring and engaging environment where a love for learning is developed. I thrive on seeing the children’s enjoyment whilst witnessing them progress and succeed in every stage of the school year.

Within the Year 1 team, I am supported by two very capable teaching assistants. Mrs Webster and Miss Cadman are valuable members of the Year 1 team who are both supportive and encouraging to all children within the class. Together we create an interactive, safe and fun classroom where children are encouraged to ask questions, explore and take risks to further their own development.   

This year we will be covering exciting topics such as ‘Bright Lights, Big City’, which encompasses a knowledge of the location and sights of London, alongside discovering why King Charles and Paddington Bear are famous. A firm favourite with the children is always the ‘Dinosaur Planet’ topic, where we explore a variety of dinosaurs, their diet, habitat and even invite a giant T-Rex to come and visit us! Our final topic of ‘School Days’ relates to our everyday life but compares how school life has changed for the better since Victorian times.

A strong partnership between home and school is vital to helping your child succeed to the best of their ability. We welcome support from parents with homework tasks to reinforce learning and regular reading at home to support their fluency and word recognition. This partnership continues through Class Dojo, where you can find regular updates on what we have been doing in class. Myself, Mrs Webster and Miss Cadman are always available to speak to before or after school in person, or you can contact me through Edulink online.
