Dear parents/carers,

Welcome to year 2. I am delighted to welcome you and your child to Mab’s Cross Primary School. We are a hard-working, happy class who strive to be the best we can be every day.

My name is Mrs Deakin and I will be your child’s teacher this year. In this class, we are very lucky to have Mrs Sammut working with us as our teaching assistant. We are both looking forward to working with your child on their journey of learning and discovery.

In our classroom, learning is interactive and meaningful. Our classroom is a safe and supportive environment where children can take risks, ask questions and explore new ideas. This year, we have three different, exciting topics across the year

Our year 2 topics are:

• Land Ahoy and Let’s Explore the World
• Movers and Shakers
• Towers, Tunnels and Turrets

It is key to supporting your child’s learning at home. Reading as much as possible at home is ideal, and it has a great impact on their literacy skills. Each week, children will bring home reading books to develop reading fluency and comprehension and a library book which can be read at home together to promote a love of reading and sharing books. You can also support your child to complete their homework and spelling practice, which is sent home weekly.

I believe that a strong partnership between you as parents and us as teachers is key to your child’s success. There are many ways we will update you:
