Dear Parents,
I would like to welcome you and your child to Year 2 at Mab’s Cross Primary School. My name is Mrs Alcock and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am looking forward to inspiring your child to develop a love of learning.
My aim is to create a positive, engaging and inclusive classroom, where every child feels safe, valued and able to reach their full potential. I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel confident to take risks, ask questions, and explore new ideas.
I believe that learning should be interactive, meaningful and fun! In our classroom, we focus on our values of respect, responsibility and perseverance, whilst developing empathy, raising self-esteem, independence and communication skills.
This year, our topics are Coastline, Street Detectives and Magnificent Monarchs. Our Coastline unit explores the human and physical features of the coast and provides the opportunity to investigate the important work of the RNLI. We will place a focus upon the coastal town of Whitby and discover how to use maps and compasses. In our Street Detectives topic, we will explore the local community, looking at old and new houses and investigate how the streets have changed over time. We will plan routes, write directions and create maps. In Magnificent Monarchs we will delve into the past to discover information about the British monarchy. We will use timelines, portraits and historical sources to research the six most significant sovereigns.
I believe that a strong partnership between parents and teachers is a key to a child’s success. I will be sharing updates through Dojo, Edulink and termly newsletters. If you have any concerns, queries or information that you would like to share with me, please contact me through Edulink or speak to me after school.
There are many ways to support your child’s learning, from reading together at home to volunteering in a classroom or at school events. If you are interested in participating, please let me know.
I am looking forward to working with you to ensure that your child has a successful year.
Best regards,
Mrs Alcock
