Year One/Two - Mrs Martinus

Hello and welcome to our Year 1 and 2 class!

My name is Mrs Martinus, and I am delighted to be your child’s teacher this year. I have had the pleasure of working at Mab’s Cross for many years and during my time have taken on a wonderful role as part of the Arts and Culture team.

We are very lucky to have Mrs Hayes (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) who helps and supports us in our classroom.  In our Year 1 and 2 class, we embark on an exciting journey of learning, exploration and growth. We aim to build upon our skills and develop confidence. Our classroom is a nurturing space where every child feels safe and valued. Through engaging lessons, hands-on activities and a supportive environment, we encourage curiosity, resilience and a love of learning.

This year, our topics are Land Ahoy, Movers and Shakers and our final topic is Towers, Tunnels and Turrets. Our Land Ahoy topic enables us to sail the seas, whilst we navigate, investigate and explore the world. In our Movers and Shakers topic, we learn about historically significant people who have had a major impact on the world, such as Neil Armstrong, Rosa Parks and Emmeline Pankhurst. In Towers, Tunnels and Turrets we learn about towers, battlements and secret tunnels! We look at the different parts of a castle and what life is like inside.

We look forward to partnering with parents and guardians to ensure a successful and enjoyable year for every child in our class. There are many ways you can support your child’s learning, from reading together, supporting your child with homework and class projects, volunteering on class trips or school events. At Mab’s Cross, we aim to promote a love of reading, and we set a weekly challenge to read three times at home. If the reading challenge is met, your child’s name goes into a raffle each week. A name is picked at random and the chosen child gets to take home the reading satchel, which includes a book, teddy bear, hot chocolate and biscuits.

We love to share our learning, activities and updates with you, and we do this through Class Dojo, Edulink and fortnightly newsletters from our headteacher, Mrs Poole. Throughout the year you will be updated on your child’s progress through Parents Evening meetings or reports sent home.  If you need to speak to me, please contact me on Edulink or come and speak to me at the end of the school day.

I am looking forward to working with your child and are very excited to begin this adventure with them.

Let’s make this year a memorable one!
