Dear Parents, Carers
I am pleased to welcome you and your child to Year 1 at Mab’s Cross Primary School. My name is Mrs Martin and I will be your child’s teacher this year, alongside Mrs Wright and Mrs Dollar, who are our class teaching assistants. I am looking forward to sharing our exciting curriculum with your child and supporting them in their personal and academic growth.
I have taught in both Early Years and KS1 and I aim to provide a welcoming and supportive environment within the setting so that your child can reach their full potential.
I believe that learning should be interactive, meaningful and fun. I will provide a safe and supportive environment where children feel confident to take risks, ask questions and explore new ideas and where the focus is on respect, responsibility and working together as a team.
This year our topics will be ‘Bright Lights, Big City’, where we look at our capital city through the eyes of Paddington Bear, ‘Dinosaur Planet’, where we explore the different types of dinosaurs and what we know so much about them, and ‘The Victorians,’ with a particular focus on what it was like for children in the Victorian Era. The children will have the opportunity to engage in practical activities, group projects and creative problem-solving activities whilst developing their communication skills.
I believe that a strong partnership between parents and teachers is key to a child’s success, and I will be sharing updates with you through our newsletter and class dojo. You can also contact me through Edulink, or speak to me in person if you prefer, to discuss any questions or concerns you may have over what is going on in school.
There are lots of ways that you can support your child’s learning: sharing books with them at home, working with them on the weekly tasks they come home with and talking with them about what they have been doing during the day. You might also like to participate in the wider life of school by volunteering to work within classes, helping at school events or joining the Governing Body. If this interests you, please let me know as you will be most welcome.
I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child this year and I look forward to supporting them through their time in Year 1.
Kind regards
Carol Martin
