2025
This year our Y4 residential took place in beautiful South Cumbria, Castle Head, which sits between the scenic coast of Morecambe Bay and the breathtaking peaks of the southern Lake District. We took part in a wide selection of outdoor activities led by qualified instructors. These included the following:
Canoeing - we paddled along the river in rafted canoes, promoting teamwork and outdoor exploration.
Curious Creatures - we explored habitats in the Castle head grounds and identified organisms we found using a key.
Secret Ponds - we explored the river at Cartmel, identifying different microhabitats within the environment. Children discovered the organisms that lived in the river, learning how to use keys to identify them. Principles of classification, adaptation and food chains were explored.
Orienteering Puzzles - This was an action-packed introduction to orienteering and maps. Children raced to complete an orienteering course designed to develop their spatial and kinaesthetic skills whilst in the natural environment.
Evening activities - The children went on an early night walk and enjoyed stories and music around a campfire.
