Multiplication Check

The Multiplication Tables Check is an annual digital assessment for Year 4 pupils. Its purpose is to ensure children can fluently recall their times tables up to 12 x 12, which is a vital foundation for more complex maths like fractions and area.

How does it work?

  • Format: It is a quick, online test consisting of 25 questions.
  • Timing: Children have 6 seconds to read and answer each question.
  • Support: It’s designed to be low-stakes and familiar, often taken on the tablets or computers your child uses every day in class.

How can you help at home?

The best way to prepare is through short, fun bursts of practice. You don't need to do hours of work—just 5 to 10 minutes a day makes a huge difference!

  • Top Tip: Use apps like Times Tables Rock Stars ( see link on left-hand side for introduction to TTRockstars) or hit the "sound check" mode to mimic the test format.Times Tables Rock Stars website.
  • Verbal Drills: Fire quick-fire questions at them during breakfast or on the walk to school.
  • Focus on the Tricky Ones: The 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 times tables often appear most frequently in the check.
