Dear parents/Carers,
Welcome to Mab's Cross Community Primary School! My name is Mrs Hutchinson, and I am absolutely delighted to be your child's Year 5 teacher this year, alongside Mrs Webster, our teaching assistant. As we embark on this exciting journey of learning together, I cannot wait to see the wonderful experiences and achievements that lie ahead for each one of our students!
With eighteen years of teaching experience, primarily focusing on Key Stage 2, I am deeply committed to ensuring that all of my pupils reach their full potential. I hold high expectations and standards for everyone in my class, believing that each child can achieve remarkable things. My aim is to create a nurturing environment that is both positive and inclusive, where children feel comfortable and encouraged to express themselves and thrive. Learning should be enjoyable and interactive, and in our classroom, we will place a strong emphasis on developing responsibility and ownership of learning. I hope to inspire my pupils to take risks and explore new ideas with enthusiasm.
This year, we have some thrilling topics lined up, including an in-depth exploration of the Tudors and the Ancient Egyptians. These historical periods are rich with fascinating stories and innovative achievements, and I am eager for the children to engage with them. In addition, our science curriculum will take us on a captivating journey through the planets and space, filled with hands-on activities that spark curiosity and wonder. As part of our learning, we have exciting trips planned to RHS Bridgewater and various museums, where children will have the opportunity to see firsthand the topics we discuss in class come to life. Furthermore, our school residential at Low Bank Ground promises to be an unforgettable experience. Here, students can engage in a variety of adventurous activities, such as paddleboarding, kayaking, and canoeing on Coniston Water, as well as rock climbing, ghyll scrambling, and hill walking in the stunning Cumbrian countryside. These experiences will not only challenge their physical abilities but also develop their teamwork and communication skills, which are essential for success in all areas of life.
To further enhance your child's learning experience this year, I encourage you to foster a love of reading at home. Please set aside time for them to read daily, as this will significantly benefit their language skills and understanding. I also recommend making the most of the learning apps we have on offer, which can reinforce the skills we cover in class. Moreover, we would greatly appreciate your involvement as trip volunteers or as listeners for children reading in school—it’s a fantastic way to engage with your child's education, and if you're interested in joining us, please do let me know!
I genuinely look forward to getting to know both you and your child throughout the year. Together, I am confident we will make this a fantastic year filled with learning, growth, and a strong sense of community. Thank you for your support; I cannot wait to embark on this exciting journey together!
Kind regards,
Charlotte Hutchinson
